OK, fam. We've been through so many versions of self-development toolkit building. And by we, I mean me & all versions of me that made it this far in my adult life, post-2008 economy, freelancing as an actor/host/speaker, navigating Hollywood, redefining relationships, the Trump era, the hot mess that was 2020, and the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
It has been a lot.
Some days, I'm motivated af, ready to take on anything and everything. Other days, drinking a glass of water is a very tall order.
And so it goes.
When I can step outside myself to stop criticizing the gap between where I thought I'd be, where I want to be, and where I currently am, I've been able to strategize how to keep moving forward despite the loud and persistent voices occupying my head.
One of these ways was provided by YouTuber Rowena Tsai and her video on building systems instead of habits.
In my most recent podcast episode "Micro-Moving Into 2021" , I reflected on how all my big dreams and visions in life have been tested over the years in how I choose to ultimately execute my intentions into action.
I do find some joy and satisfaction in figuring out how to get from A to B. This idea of making processes that by default develop habits to help advance me from where I am to where I want to be - money, relationships, lifestyle, spirituality, fashion - is challenging. It's fun. It makes me ask hard questions. It makes me prioritize. It makes bite-sized movement doable, and overwhelm subside.
It still comes down to plain ol' diligence, every single day. Some days you'll move 1%, another day 10%. The point is to keep moving, no matter how small the movement is, and be your own cheerleader, friend, parent, and leader in the process.
Thanks, Rowena, for sharing your thoughts and experience with this concept. I'm excited to see what comes of applying it to my own life in 2021 and beyond.
love, minji
